Kathryn Brewer, Graphic Designer
Kathryn has more than 20 years of experience as a graphic designer. She has designed periodicals and other print material for Household Bank, several YMCAs, the ELCA, Lutheran Education Association, Concordia University-River Forest and Zenith Data Systems, among many others.
Kathryn received her bachelor’s degree in Art: Visual Communication and in Journalism: Magazine Editing from Northern Illinois University’s acclaimed programs in 1984. The complimentary degrees provide a well-rounded base for design of complex print material. She worked in various design shops, and in 1988 joined Augsburg Fortress, Publishers as Graphic Designer. She was largely responsible for the branding look and feel of the print materials for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a mainstream religious organization with 5 million members.
Kathryn formed Brewer Communications in 1992 to serve a larger client base with more extensive projects, including periodicals and fund-raising communications, branding identities for small businesses and organizations, special event and convention promotions, viewbooks, campaign case statements and annual reports. Incorporated in 1994, Brewer Communications, Inc. provides comprehensive design and print communications for national audiences. and serves the electronic publishing needs of our clients, including Web sites and eZines.
Kathryn has received numerous awards for her work. The Religious Communicators Council gave an Award of Excellence for ELCA Response Catalog in 1997, She has also received Awards of Merit for World Encounter magazine, Making Christ Known magazine, Journeys Annual Report of Lutheran Home and Service of Illinois, and several additional print pieces.
Kathryn has taught college-level courses in graphic design, and has presented workshops for the Association of Lutheran Development Executives (ALDE). She is a member of the Society of Typographic Arts.
I love to create classic design for publications with huge numbers of words and I enjoy the challenges of integrating a wide range of print material with one branding identity.
