With your help, LCFS helps a fragile family grow stronger
Thanks to LCFS’ Sparta-based Family Support program and your gifts to LCFS, life is now much better for the "Johnsons," a downstate family whose middle child, 13-year-old "Matt," has a genetic disorder that requires close monitoring of his diet. As Matt approached his teens, he began to rebel against his regimen, creating tension and disharmony within the family. Fortunately, their family doctor referred them to the Family Support program, where LCFS staff helped the family members clarify their responsibilities and improve communications. Read more.
How volunteers are making a difference
At age 83, Wally Baermann isnt slowing down a bit. Indeed, at this years Lutherbrook Bowl-A-Rama, he was again the top pledge-getter, raising more than $1700.
How did he do it? Wally got on the phone and called everyone he knew, including his fellow parishioners at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elmhurst. Wally told them all about the fine work Lutherbrook does to help children who have experienced severe abuse and neglect
and then he asked them to support Lutherbrook by making a pledge for the Bowl-A-Rama.
Why does he do it? Wally cares about kids, and believes they all deserve a chance to lead full, happy and satisfying lives.
Fran Presta also did a terrific job as a volunteer, handling many of the administrative arrangements for the Bowl-A-Rama. From sending mailings to local businesses, to securing sponsorships and raffle item donations, Fran contributed countless hours and energized everyone involved. We wouldnt have been as successful without her efforts.
Wally and Fran arent the only ones. This year more than 400 bowlers and 15 volunteers helped make this the most successful Bowl-A-Rama ever, raising $35,000.
